October bank holiday weekend, and I'm really wondering where exactly did all that time go since the start of the year when I was relishing the longer lighter, brighter days. Sadly we're in for some darker, shorter days for a while, thankfully it will be soon enough to the spring.
So what's the best way to use this extra long weekend? Relaxing, resting, recuperating, and having FUN!! These long weekends are NOT best used spending that extra day to get ahead while everyone else is taking the day off!! There are exceptions to this however, and they are when tight deadlines for critical projects are looming, but do not be tempted to use the extra time for business. For you to be even more effective in your business you need to know not only how to WORK hard, but also to PLAY hard!
These long weekends are the perfect opportunity to spend QUALITY time with friends and family, nurture the relationships that will support you when the going is tough. Spend time with the people that you care about, and who care for you.
Now is the time to relax, you are the leader, you are the driver in your business, you're the one that makes all the decisions, takes all the responsibility, isn't it time you took a break? Got some down time so that you can reflect objectively on all of that hard work and activity that you've been involved in?
Taking a break is the best way of ensuring optimum performance, do you think Richard Branson works such long hours he never gets to enjoy his own personal retreat on Necker Island?
Sure enjoy your work, enjoy developing your business but enjoy yourself, who you are outside of business, enjoy your family, enjoy your friends. Most importantly have FUN! If you don't enjoy these things, then what exactly is the purpose of running your own business, to get more freedom? Freedom to do what, work 6-10pm 7 days a week? Use the time to reflect quietly on what's important to you.
Oh, and remember be careful with those fireworks, don't eat all the candy you bought for the trick or treaters (Like my boyfriend did!) and have a HAPPY HALLOWEEN! :-)
