Resistance to Sales

Ever wonder about selling, how to improve your sales figures, how to sell to your target market?  Have you ever been aware of how you react when people are selling to you?  That's what I'm reflecting on today, having had an experience today where I was being "sold" to I realised I had huge resistance to this, but why?  Because the product and the person selling to me was not what I was interested in buying.  This person has been very persistent, despite me clearly communicating that his product was not one that I was interested in buying, and having stated the reasons why.  In my pondering on this encounter I was led to wonder whether his persistence would be effective or not, and quite possibly it could.  If he keeps on sending me information about his products, which I do have a general interest there may just be one that comes along that I'll think Yes!  I want that!  This is the reason why you MUST keep your customers and potential customers informed about your product or service!  Get your customers to sign up to a regular newsletter on your website, and keep them informed of what you're doing - give them something valuable - like a blog that contains useful informaiton on how to improve their sales, for example :-)

What I disliked most of all about being "sold" to this morning what the gentleman's method of communication, paying no attention to what I've said, and I felt like I was being pulled against my will by him, which is the exact opposite of good sales methods, and that is what I want to share with you... the secret of successful salels involves a simple 3 step process:

  1. Identify your customers problem - by talking to them, asking them about themselves - let them tell you exactly what they need.
  2. Tell them how your product or service actually provides them with exactly what they need!
  3. Ask them by which method they would like to pay, credit card, cash or cheque?

Sales is actually a very enjoyable process, ifyou enjoy talking to and meeting new people.  You will generally discover something new about your target market which is hugely beneficial when creating your marketing strategy.

What's that I hear you say? You don't have a marketing strategy?  Keep an eye out for future blogs where I'll be discussing how and why to create a marketing strategy for your business!

Happy selling!
