Last night I attended the Fingal Business Network in the Grand Hotel Malahide, you'll see me there every month, it's one of my home networking groups.
Last night's presentation was by Caithlin O'Connor from Accelerating Performance, she gave her expert advice on how to effectively network, gave great tips and insight on how to improve networking skills.
One of the things that jumped out for me was that Caithlin highlighted that there are different ways of networking, we don't all need to be social butterflies to effectively network. This is something I'll certainly remind my clients, it's not necessarily about quanity of people we meet, but the quality, the impression and impact we make is essential.
We also got a reminder not to stick in our comfort zones only chatting with the people we know, but to move around, to actually meet people that we haven't previously met before. Having the reminder gave everyone that extra momentum to do just that and the networking last night was very lively, and more than one very fruitful business connection was made!
The other great thing I came away with was a boost in confidence, and reassurance, I am doing this networking thing the right way :) My approach to networking is relationship building, the more people that know and trust me, the more people that are likely to refer business to me. Lets face it, 90% of business comes about from referrals one way or another so it's in every business owner's best interest to be known, especially amongst the business community. Other business owners are people that have a wide circle of influence, if the average person has 200 contacts, the average business person has twice that- think of their customer database alone!
All in all a very successful, enjoying night networking, if you're around Malahide on Thurs 30th April, why not join us, pick up some great tips & meet some great people.
Next month's speaker is Krishna De marketing expert, the topic is using LinkedIn to grow your business :)
